序数词：序数词是数词的一种，主要在英语语法中讲到，在汉语中表示为第几。此外，在生日中，描述你出生的日期时，也会用到序数词。比如：May-first (5月1日)；在英语学习中，基数词和序数词往往需要区分。

不用the的情况：

在英语中，使用序数词时，应在前面添加冠词 the，但在以下情况下不添加 the：

1.当形容词性物的主代词或名词的所有格在序数词前修饰时，序数词前不需要 the。

Mother was my first teacher in my life.妈妈是我一生中的第一位老师。

Tom is Lilys third boyfriend. 汤姆是莉莉的第三个男朋友。

2.表达分数时，序数前不需要 the。

One fifth of the students here are from the country. 这里五分之一的学生来自农村。

Three fourths of the students here are from the country. 这里三分之四的学生来自农村。

3.当表达再次出现时，在序数字之前不需要 the，但是可以加不定冠词。

Please give me a second chance. 请再给我一次机会。

The poor woman had a third baby. 可怜的女人又生了第三个孩子。

4.在表达年月日之前不需要序数字the。

He was born on June 6th,1974. 他出生于1974年6月6日。

5.当序数词在句中作为状语时，序数词前不需要 the。

Who got there second? 谁是第二个到那里的？

I finished the work first. 我是第一个完成这项工作的人。

6.在表达比赛中获得的排名时，序数字前不需要 the。

She stands first in her class. 她在班上排名第一。

7.当代表某人的生日时，序数字前不添加the。

Marys twelfth birthday.玛丽十二岁生日。
